But if the book was helpful, and these additional resources are helpful, I hope you’ll sign up.

Bonus Chapter on Productivity for Executive Directors

This bonus chapter is all about productivity, calendars, and the nuts and bolts of being an ED. I recommend systems that I use to get through the day. There are bound to be some new ideas here that will make it easier to thrive in your role.

Bonus Chapter on Leading Change

This chapter is a deep dive on how to steer an organization through change. It’s a step-by-step guide with lots of examples. If you see a big scary thing that needs to be addressed, but you aren’t sure how to do it, this chapter should help a lot.

12 Month Budget Sample (Blank)

I love using 12-month budgets like this to get the board to sign off. You can later input these numbers into Quickbooks or your preferred accounting software. But a one-page budget like this can really help get the board (and yourself) to clearly understand what you’re proposing and how the money works.

Nonprofit Cash Flow Tutorial

During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, many nonprofit leaders were in a terrible state of uncertainty. And many didn’t know how to get a grapple on cash flow. I created a sample cash flow report using a template that I use regularly and recorded a half-hour video of myself using it. The Excel file, post, and the video cover everything you need to understand cash flow.

Here’s the post.

An Executive Director’s Preview of The Little Book of Boards: A Board Member’s Handbook for Small (and Very Small) Nonprofits

I’m really proud of The Little Book of Boards. I think it’s a very useful tool for nonprofit board members. But EDs might want some assurances about what I’m telling the board before recommending them the book! If that’s the case, I’ve put together a PDF with a sample of the first chapter. I hope you’ll use it to evaluate the book and decide if it’s right for your board.

Sample Executive Director Reports

Below are three Word documents of varying lengths that I’ve delivered to my board. I pulled out full names and some small personal details, but otherwise these are very representative of the documents I have delivered to my boards over the years.
