“How do we recruit and develop the board we need” with Rob Harter

Hello! I had a really great conversation with Rob Harter on the Nonprofit Leadership Podcast that I’m excited to share with everyone.

We talked about board recruiting and board orientation, two areas where I think nonprofits tend to fall down the most when it comes to their board. Get these things right, and the board is in a good position to flourish.

We discuss the different kinds of board members and why not everyone needs to be a “rock star” to still have a high-functioning board.

We also dive into term limits, why they are beneficial, and how to start thinking about them if you don’t have them yet.

Enjoy the episode!

The Little Book of Boards provides a concise and easy-to-read overview of the responsibilities of a board member. It provides an excellent overview of the fiduciary responsibilities of the board and then the further responsibilities of someone who takes a leadership position. Some books were too detailed but this one provided enough context for someone new to a board position.
